Since 1961, Salone Del Mobile has been the premier annual furniture exhibition showcasing design excellence from around world. Here we are at the heart of it – scoping out what’s new from the globe’s most illustrious brands. We’ve selected a few stand-outs from this week’s fair and are eager to have these products and many more to share with you at our showrooms in the upcoming months.
With its highly innovative construction, the Freeman Tailor sofa from Minotti is available in a series of dynamic configurations which can be arranged to fit any space and need. This hand-crafted sofa made up of an orderly clustering of shapes adorned with elegant stitching to add depth and accentuate its graphic, modern form. Freeman Tailor is available in an array of fabrics and leather.
The Do-Maru armchair from B&B Italia is named after the ancient armour worn by samurai warriors, made up of painted and decorated thick leather plates that covered and protected the hero’s body. The shell of the seat is made up of padding that can be upholstered with either fabric or leather. The cast aluminum back support underlines the conical profile of this unique and comfortable armchair.
The Ren Collection from Poltrona Frau addresses the nature of the domestic throughway with a series of objects that are hybrid in their function and materials and includes a free-standing mirror coat rack, small table, console table, wall-mounted mirror coat rack and valet stand. Designers Neri & Hu have incorporated the shape of the Chinese ideogram “ren” meaning “human being” to this thoughtful collection.
With Patricia Urquiola now at the helm as Art Director at Cassina, some incredible things are occurring – namely the new Beam sofa which catapults modular seating design well into the future. This sofa is structured around a beam (hence the name) where useful elements can be added such as a stone side table and an extra seat.
